About the coffee

Another bright and distinctive washed Kenyan from the Rungeto Farmer's Cooperative Society. Flavors of dark berries, blackcurrant jam, and rosehip.

The Karimikui coffee factory was established in 1966. It covers 2.4 hectares of land and serves the villages of Githureia, Gituba, and Kia Mugumo. It is located in an area where most smallholder farmers grow tea, not coffee. We have sourced our coffee from Rungeto FCS since 2016. Rungeto was formed after the dissolution of Ngiriama FCS, which led to the merger of the Kiangoi, Karimikui, and Kii factories. Located on the slopes of Mount Kenya, the farmers affiliated with the Rungeto cooperative are known for growing intense, complex, and flavorful coffees. The farms that produce these coffees are located at an altitude of 1,600 to 1,800 meters. The chairman of this factory has introduced several initiatives at all Rungeto FCS factories. One notable measure is the installation of tiles on all wash troughs and fermentation tanks. Furthermore, the water used in processing is recycled.

About the roastery

Dak Coffee Roasters is based in charming Amsterdam and was founded by Louis-Philippe & Veronique. They are from Montreal, Canada. They select beautiful and unique coffees and roast them carefully to bring out the best flavors they have to offer. They always have a selection that includes some unusual and experimental coffees in addition to the classic varieties. There is always something there that is interesting to us.
