About the coffee

Located in the Kiria-ini area of Gatanga, Murang'a County, Kenya, the estate is managed by Mercy Wambui Gatuhi. Founded in 1978 by William Gatuhi Murathe, the farm thrives at an altitude of 1,750 to 1,800 meters on fertile, deep red volcanic soils rich in organic matter. The estate grows exclusively the Ruiru 11 coffee variety. During harvest, the estate employs up to 400 local workers who carefully hand-pick the cherries at their peak ripeness. These cherries are transported to the wet mill where they are carefully sorted on a veranda. After sorting, they go through a pulping machine that uses fresh water to remove the outer layer of fruit. The beans are then fermented overnight, thoroughly washed and sorted according to their density. At the end of the process, the beans are dried in the sun on raised beds under close supervision until they reach the ideal moisture content.

About the roastery

Dak Coffee Roasters is based in charming Amsterdam and was founded by Louis-Philippe & Veronique. They are from Montreal, Canada. They select beautiful and unique coffees and roast them carefully to bring out the best flavors they have to offer. They always have a selection that includes some unusual and experimental coffees in addition to the classic varieties. There is always something there that is interesting to us.
